Dave Chandler
Pilgrimage
At the 400th door knocked in Wisconsin, the old man says, “At the dairy where I work, half the guys speak Spanish. This isn’t America anymore.”
At the 800th door knocked in Wisconsin, the young father says, “I work for peanuts. I’ll never be able to buy a house. I might as well throw a brick.”
At the 1200th door knocked in Wisconsin, the nervous woman says, “It’s the vaccines! It’s a plot to kill children!”
trudging down
a stony path
marked by false signs
to kiss the bones
of a fraud
