Unanswered

Each step stirs leaves in crisp whispers, the murmur of practiced words. I walk farther than usual, exhaling into questions I’m unready to answer.

At the village pond, a ripple skews fiery reflections; thoughts scatter like startled birds. For a moment, the air steadies, and I hold onto this thin breath before moving on.

reeds bow into shadows
shapes I’m only
beginning
to understand
