Endearments

Uncle Day called me Dude. It may have been his version of my first name, Judy, but I thought it was a joke as I considered myself a cowgirl. Hey, Dude, he called, his dark eyes sparkling under a wide-brimmed Stetson, while he and Daddy talked brother to brother. Hey, Dude, he called when I watched him ride his golden palomino like my hero, Roy Rodgers. He called his blonde wife Honey so often that everyone called her Honey. Once I asked about his name, but he didn’t answer.
