Mary Ahearn
Early Call
He calls, out of the blue, early in the day when I’m on my first cup of tea. Still between dream and prayer, I’m not ready yet for charting out the day.
He’s full of the morning, clear and sweet, his words and thoughts, so full of life that as I listen, I respond to that wonder and answer with my own.
Later, as the tea cools and the day brightens, a bird calls from down in the marsh. The day echoes with joy.

out of sight
but somewhere close
an early Spring
