Still Life

The two orchid plants are still alive, one year after their gifting. What’s even more wonderful is that they’re both putting out new flower stalks. Every morning I check their progress; every morning, a little longer and closer to blooming.

I’m more suited to plants in the ground outside, free to take care of themselves, with a little help when it comes to weeds or water. Not so with potted plants in the house, which are entirely dependent on me. If they fail, it may be their problem, but it’s my fault.
