Pictures of the Frozen World
I wake up to see outside my window the world is a Japanese woodblock print. Black birds caught forever flying in a pink sky over pine trees bent by snow. The mounds of snow shaped like the jumping bunnies also suspended in mid-air over my pink French Empire chaise. I wake up.
ready to meditate
except the pillow
is whispering
lost in the closet
behind her pink bear

About the Author
Joy Hallinan is the co-founder with Tom Painting of Samara, a haiku group in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a not-for-profit administrator working with vulnerable populations, an artist, and a former ballroom dancer with bad knees. I really liked the repeat of I wake up. And the segue from one pink to another pink to the final pink.

For me I loved the opening sentence. Immediately my mind and imagination went to the Japanese wood block print–stark, colorless moving into this exotic dream land –the structured to the unstructured–no boundaries, just imagination. .
