Camera Obscura

A different bunker, the same sounds: nervous chatter, early birds, and, of course, the siren. Plus Mayim, a person the length of our pup’s foreleg. Mayim cannot yet walk, but she is in her stride. She and the wolfhound are having a moment.

  1. From the very heart of conflict, rarely can anyone have described any aspect as perfectly as Sara Tropper has done in this haibun – right from the title down to the final line of the haiku. I would encourage anyone who wants to read more of the same to purchase ‘White Heat’, a startling first book from a startling new author.

  2. We certainly need more of the equivalent of war correspondents in haibun. Thank you Sara, as always your work is powerfully focused and literary at the same time.

  3. Hello Sara,
This is beautifully scribed. I loved Faye’s review at Red Moon, as well as the others. I visited Red Moon Press, and it seems to be only in print. I am vision impaired, and my computer settings are on audio and dark mode. Perhaps in the future it will come to text to voice, hoping! All the best success, Karina Klesko
