I have to feel it in my body, the maestra tells the audience after the Tchaikovsky concerto. I was trained by male conductors. No disrespect, but most were short, compact. Her long lithe body is clothed in black. During the performance she is a blackbird spreading wings, rising in the piano’s crescendo.
