Christ in New York City

There’s a skyscraper stuck in the eye of God. Jesus climbs out of a cab, the sour smell of last night’s cheap wine on his breath. He’s dying for a miracle or, if that’s too much to ask, he’d settle for a cigarette. Hungover, he squints in the bright early morning light of another Monday, thinking we all have our crosses to bear.
