At summer camp you first learned to identify native deciduous and evergreen trees, and to distinguish between edible and poisonous plants. You observed birds, snakes, fish, and insects going about their lives in the woods and the water. Because you were extremely nearsighted, every detail appeared fascinating and meaningful.
