The Mix Up
The week is Purim, a joyful holiday for Jews, commemorating Queen Esther who saves her people from the villainous Haman, the king’s henchman. Children wear costumes to represent the central characters.
While most families retell the Purim story each year, I recount the embarrassment I cause my young son. He is told to come to Hebrew School dressed as Haman, but I send him as Queen Esther! Even now, I’m baffled by how I could get things so mixed up.
