Richard L. Matta
Dancing in the Breeze
On this dark display resembling a flat sea, I’m etching this note on the touchscreen like an acrobatic seabird scripting a sea surface. I’m hoping and waiting for a dolphin who will use this screen as a trampoline— how else could it move as it does? She’ll come up for air, meet my embrace, and then the etching will stop.
along the bay a line of daffodils how their hands toss how we once moved in synchronicity
Richard L. Matta grew up in New York’s Hudson Valley, attended university, practiced forensic science, and now lives in San Diego. Some of his haiku, tanka and haibun are in Modern Haiku, Frogpond, Akitsu Quarterly, Bottle Rockets and Presence. His long-form poetry is found in various journals, including Gyroscope, Dewdrop, Ancients Path and Healing Muse.
Strong, imaginative lyricism, Richard. Your use of metaphor underscores the longing feel in this engaging poem.
