Dreams of Drowning

My ocean swims with lobsters, sharks, seals, boats chugging off into the cold blinding light of dawn. I have leapt off a bridge into the cloying arms of kelp, dissolved with the salt on granite cobbles. I wait, legs scarred by barnacles, limpets clinging to my fingertips, for waves to leap into dolphins’ backs. But the sea never gives anything away.

opening a window
onto distant islands
childhood fears
