Another Life
My father loved animals. He hated hurting anything, even pests. He once rescued a young vixen with her front paw caught in a gin trap and nursed her back to health. When he lost his job we had to leave the cottage and St Helens. What happened to our menagerie I have no idea. We couldn’t take three black rabbit kits and a green praying mantis to the city. We didn’t know where we were going to live. When we left I never thought to check if my parents closed the back door.
