Renée Owen
all the little choices
nights I wander in a land of dreams I hike into dusk fields filled with pools of standing water left over from the only decent rain to fall in these fiery drought-fueled years where swooping towards me at eye level in the shadows a barn owl spreads his ghostly wings and soars into the trees beyond where I too before long will veer off this rutted trail and make my way into the afterworld yet now this looking backward at all I did and didn’t do this looking forward this wondering will life continue hurtling me on or will I slow down and fill my days of longing
in a field of dried grass amaryllis belladonna
