Gavin Austin

Zelda

I see her sitting across the aisle of the school bus. Morning after morning, her wild brown hair refusing to be tamed by an elastic band or ribbon. She smells of wildflowers growing on windswept hills; a secretive smile and a faraway look reflected in her sky-blue eyes.

four orchids
scattered by the roadside
unruly petals
shivering in the winds
that swept them there
