Joanna Ashwell
Footsteps
A mammoth task, clearing out the cupboard of old shoes. Rows of empty shoes with nowhere to go—worn heels and crumbling leather, fading colours beyond the redemption of polish. The two-tone blue and brown Reikers that accompanied me on holidays. The Hotter pink pair, still stained with blood from my mountain trek. Block heels and comfy flats, sandals past their best. Beach wear, woodland wear, office wear, casual wear, going-out wear. The muddled pairs angling upward to walk their own trail into the light.
