Tom Painting

Hindsight

You don’t see this very often any more. A young couple on the side of the road with their thumbs out. There was a time, back in junior college, when my new girlfriend and I routinely hitchhiked to school and out-of-the-way places. She and I vowed forever, but it didn’t last. If she were with me now, I have no doubt we’d stop and give them a ride. I slow down, but think better of it, being alone.

  1. Thanks Tom.
I do remember those days and your haibun brought back a time when hitch-hiking was okay. We worried about so little then.

    Most enjoyable.
