Poornima

I stare into the edge of the fourteenth moon’s night.
Everything shimmers in argent light.
The orb’s quicksilver cusps an India-ink sky,
the broken smiles of stars,
mauve clouds cracked open to slake summer’s thirst,
bare-branched banyans stretch, dissolve into dusk.
Night is a still pond, over-brimmed with patience,
waiting for the flap of roosting crows to ripple its calm.
I take it in, piece by piece, this silent jigsaw puzzle,
breathing it in, trying to solve its mysterious allure.

sliver upon sliver
she waxes to fullness
then wanes again
birth, death and birth again
my moon life, your moon life

  1. Madhu,

    I like this tanka prose.
I see a continuity of thought from your prose flowing to the tanka – and I seem to like the resonance you’ve achieve here.

    Well done.
