A rebellion of sorts, she kissed me in front of her father and I knew that gaining his approval had gone the way of the Passenger pigeon. I found myself then as of now thinking of extinction: the Carolina parakeet, Bachman’s warbler, Labrador duck and, more than likely, the Ivory-billed woodpecker. All it would have taken was a little restraint to save these birds.
