Reshaping Lines

The Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood, West Sussex, UK (August 2017)

To a lunchtime audience gathered at the picnic grove, I read my poems which had been inspired by the sculptures gathered from around the world. Soon, some people drifted away while others continued to chat among themselves, but there were the few who told me I’d actually made their day. One lady I noted, though, seemed not to understand a word I said but, nevertheless, she smiled. After my reading, a man and his wife approached and explained it was her German mother who neither spoke nor understood English. They asked me if I would be willing to read a few poems again, but slowly so that they could translate simultaneously.
