Making the best of it
The rental smelled of mold; the window frames warped and front steps rotted. It sat back a ways from the two-lane macadam road sorely in need of a coating of tar and chip seal. Our days of tenting had come to an end based on arthritic backs. One look at the bed, slumped in the middle and adorned with a patch-work quilt, suggested more of the same. Isn’t this quaint, my wife said as we made our way to the dock and saw the lake pristine and perfect.

Hi Tom
This brought back a flood of memories. It is so like some of the trips my husband and I and kids took. No matter how dismal the sleeping accommodations were, there was always something special, the sea outside the window, a view of the Matterhorn, or the Champs-Elysées around the corner.
