Summer’s Glow
I remember the bliss of childhood. The hourless afternoons when a green field was eternity. Hip deep in goldenrod and milkweed, shoulder to shoulder with thistle, I was somehow lulled by the drone, hum and buzz of fat bumblebees and dragonflies with stained-glass wings . . . and I loved the ladybugs for company.
Low to the ground, fairy species like lacewings, skippers dusting clover and more ladybugs on the underside of leaves. Inhabitants of the field were usually sleepy and cool in the morning, energized by noon.
My sense of time was where the sun was, how hot and how high, when the rhythms of adulthood did not yet exist.
holding hands ... the fern filled porch glows green memories of yesterday in the fields of summer
