fair’s fair

with Kobayashi Issa in mind

it’s december. frosty. each night a dark brown slug slips under the patio door and settles down on the corner of the indoor mat we use to wipe our feet. i pluck it up, and just for a moment let the slippery softness of its life linger between my fingers before setting it outside to find another home. each morning it is in mine again.

what say you
slug
time to pay rent

  1. Laurel, nature’s own recognize kindred spirits. You’ve captured (and released!) the moment beautifully, with tenderness and humor.
