To My Diligent Wife

struggling to get out of bed this morning after a few hours of sleep. She could complain about the late nights spent marking papers, her early morning classes. Instead, she smiles warmly at the breakfast I made: a toasted bagel, homemade cherry jam. She treats it like an elegant buffet. But what puts a twinkle in her eye is that first cup of coffee, served in her favorite mug.
