Passing Moments

Upon our first touch, I knew she was the one. Hand in hand stopping to smell spring flowers. Sifting through fertile soils tending our garden. Watching drifting clouds shape-shift over our heads as we lay side by side. Arm in arm strolling through summer showers. Playing tag with waves at the beach, our pockets filled with treasures. Building our dream castles in the sand.

Our huddled embraces beside the glowing embers of a campfire, gazing at stars and into each other’s eyes.  Our rustlings through the fallen leaves of autumn, sharing sorrows and shedding tears together. Warm and cozy, snuggled under the covers on cold winter nights. Wing to wing angels in the snow laid to rest.

all over again
in the spring
our anniversary
as if at Christmas
spirit was not enough

  1. What a beautiful tribute to a long lasting love affair. And how well this is written. I love the seasonal progression of the relationship, the cycle of life, until ‘angels in the snow laid to rest’. The understatement of what I think this indicates – the sadness of the parting, and how she is missed ‘all over again’ every spring and of course at Christmas too.
‘Building our dream castles in the sand’ – the dreams for the relationship were earthbound, real, not ‘in the air’, even though they weren’t built on solid rock.
I love the layers of meaning and dreaming room in this piece.
    Thank you Ron
