Karva Chauth

The fourth day after the Kartick month’s new moon falls India’s answer to Valentine’s Day. She hasn’t eaten since sunrise for the longevity and health of her husband. At moonrise, wearing new clothes and decked up in jewelry, together they’ll walk up to the terrace. There, she’ll look at the moon through a flour-sieve, and then accept her first sip of water from his hand to break her fast.

This year, like many young husbands, he has fasted for her too.
