Love in the Time of Cork Oaks
Next to the gas station and across the street from the lumber yard, this ancient, massive cork oak tree has been fenced off for protection. It was planted well over a century ago in an early settler’s garden, and as it grew the city grew around it. Drivers for the most part don’t notice the tree, their eyes focused instead on the corner traffic light, hoping to zoom through on amber before the light turns, no time to waste.
