Adelaide B. Shaw

Star Power

Late dusk, the tall pines silhouetted against streaks of purple, tinges of pink. Soon all color is gone and the first star appears. What wishes I had as a child. To be a ballerina. To have a doll house. My wishes are different now. An end to the pandemic and to days of boredom and fitful nights. Less arthritic pain. Perhaps some rain to cool off this muggy night, and a breeze to chase away the mosquitoes.

a swelling chorus
of crickets and tree frogs
my one voice

  1. Your haibun rings a bell. Wishing upon a star as a child–The light of one star now as an adult. There is still magic in it.
