Zane Parks
Better Angels
Vacation Bible School. Leave it to parents to find a way to send us to school during summer vacation. My little brother complains, “All we do is read the Bible and pray.” Sometimes that is the way it feels. Well, Vacation Bible School is just a week. Mom says we’ll survive. And then, my brother and I are PKs—preacher’s kids—so more is expected of us.
my parents made up the child they wanted I pretend to be that boy because they love him so much
About the Author
Zane Parks lives with his wife on the paradise coast of Florida. In between bouts of extreme writer’s block he writes haiku, tanka, and related forms.
that tanka is a killer. One time I was complaining to my son (again) that he never calls, etc. He said “Maybe you should learn to love the son you have rather than the one you want.” ooo that struck home. I don’t complain anymore; I know I may not be the mother he wants but I am the one he has and I hope he loves me.
I agree with Terri, that tanka is a killer.
Enjoyed reading this tanka prose.
