Mailbox empty again

but I like these days of No Mail. No scary bills, no political detritus. Maybe an obtuse post card or a circular marked “Occupant.” Or my semi-monthly invitation from the Neptune Society. I like these gray overcast mornings when you walk around in your robe and feel inexplicably light for the day—no phone call or unexpected doorbell ring to remind you how quickly things change. You can feel unnoticed, incognito, obscure, part of your own non-human surroundings, the texture of place, part of the flow—free, if only for a day, of the burdensome baggage of moving along.

off-white
