Introduction by Ron Moss
Haiga Gallery: William Zote
From the first moment I saw William’s fine haiga I knew this was a poet/artist in full command of his vision. A resident of Aizawl, the capital city of the Indian state of Mizoram, he began writing poetry in 2012 and, influenced by Sandy Pray, soon developed an interest in haiku, haibun, and haiga. He creates dream-like landscapes by using various media combinations that enhance his well-practiced drawing and painting skills. I’m constantly left in wonder and awe by his creative ways.
It’s a pleasure to feature some of his work here. I recommend following his haiga postings on his Facebook site.
William explains in his own words:
Someone once asked me if I had a studio (or something like that), to which I replied, “The world is my studio.“
I think that pretty much sums up my life as a writer and an artist. I write wherever I am. I draw everywhere—on practically anything that has a plane. And I look for inspiration everywhere.
Most importantly, I try not to imitate others (or replicate their works). I want to be different. I want to be original. I want to create new ideas. I want to have my own unique style. And I make it a point to keep my mind active all the time.
That’s how I stay afloat—how I stay alive, how I escape from bitter reality.

very creative idea in “golden cage”.
One of the best to me. I highly esteem his creativity of art.
Ohh! He is an enthusiastic and passion guy!!!
It’s worth following him on facebook and Instagram, creative arts, beautiful haiku poems and some humor to make you rotfl, i love this guy.
I’ve been exposed to William’s art for about two years now. I am moved every time I see another one of his works. The ephemeral nature of his work is in itself an artistic statement. Telling us much about the man through his images and willingness to let them go while capturing them with a camera. His pictures are not the art but they are so carefully composed that they are themselves works of art. I agree with Thianhlun, this is one of the artists you should follow on Facebook. Congratulations, William, and thank you for making so many of my days brighter. 🙂
Orphan baby is simply stunning!
I loved each and every haiga here.
So delicately done, both the poem and the way it is linked to the pic.
This what I love, simple words and images! If I had to choose a favourite it’s the bird on the birdbath.
