Robert Davey
Inland
The middle of Norfolk. The flatness somehow flatter in winter. Gigantic skies. Clouds, that over Wales and the West are low and often raining, are higher and happily drier.
No coastline. No broad, winding rivers (though here the Yare starts its journey to Great Yarmouth’s beaches, fish & chip shops and funfair rides).
But many small towns and villages. Flint churches, clay lump houses and an occasional windmill.
And farms.
skyline digger wheat fields shocked by clanks
stubble path littered maize cobs picked clean
distant woods dusk sky speckled with settling jackdaws
