Editorial Team Updates & 2026 Guest Editors

The cho editorial team is pleased to welcome two new ongoing members, Margi Abraham and Gerry Jacobson, both of whom will help with the tanka-prose section.

Gerry Jacobson

Gerry served as guest tanka-prose editor for the current issue, and he’s agreed to continue an a regular basis—he’ll be up again for the August 2026 cho. A retired geologist, Gerry lives in Canberra, Australia, where he says can be found writing tanka and tanka prose in cafés. Many of those pieces have found homes in such journals as Atlas Poetica, Eucalypt, Haibun Today, contemporary haibun online, and Ribbons.

Margi Abraham

Margi served as guest tanka-prose editor for the last issue of cho (21.2), and she’ll be reprising that role for the December 2026 edition. A retired urban and transport planner, she has a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Sydney, and her tanka and tanka prose have been published in many of the leading journals. She lives on the northern edge of Sydney, Australia.

Tish Davis

Tish Davis, who has served as the sole tanka prose editor since 2020, will be stepping back but (fortunately) not out: she’ll still be a member of the team as a consulting editor. Tish has a deep passion for tanka prose, and the many writers and poets who have worked with her can attest to her careful, caring attention and fund of knowledge, which she’ll continue to share.

You can find the entire roster of the regular teammembershere; all help to make sure that a new issue of cho continues to arrive every four months. We also periodically have guest editors, and in 2026 we’ll have two:

Jenny Ward Angyal

Jenny Ward Angyal will edit the tanka prose section for the April 2026 cho. Jenny, who is this month’s Featured Writer, is the author or co-author of seven books of tanka, tanka sequences, and tanka-prose and haibun. She also serves as global moderator of Inkstone Poetry Forum. She lives with her husband on a small organic farm in central North Carolina.

For the final issue of 2026, Colleen Farrelly will serve as haibun editor. Colleen lives in Miami, Florida, where she is a mathematician by day and the author of The Shape of Data (No Starch Press). A 2025-26 confluence fellow, she has published her work in Rattle, MacQueen’s Quinterly, and scifaikuest, among others. She’s preparing a 30-year retrospective on trends in haibun and has a forthcoming Haibunpedia essay in MacQueen’s Quinterly.

On behalf of all the editors, we look forward to seeing your submissions in the coming year!
