Adelaide B. Shaw
Memorial
On a cold November morning, something unexpected appears on the horizon—a chair left at the curb. Not in the best condition, but not quite ready for its end. We take it home, clean and polish it, get new webbing for the seat, get a set of cushions. Our labor is successful and for a time it holds up, but after a few years, it loses some of its stability. The arms and legs wobble, and are mended with glue. Eventually, the wooden frame cracks and separates and will not stay glued. It has reached its end.
