Mark Gilbert
Exhibition
When I saw there was a show of his work at my local city centre art gallery I rushed along at the first opportunity: because I’d heard of him, he must be good. And yes, his enormous black & white portraits of lilies and other flowers were stunning, and the close-ups of their reproductive parts had a crystal clarity. Turning the corner there was more of the same, except the photographs were now of naked men and women, mostly men, with a stunning luminosity. Mingling with the other visitors I managed to keep the same expression as I had in the previous room, my left eyebrow fixed at the same angle as before.
