Stranger Danger
Eventually the day came when I had to stop teaching. Especially in the inner city schools. After fifteen years it had changed me in unbelievable ways—into someone I didn’t even recognize. For everyone’s sake I decided to take a different job. This didn’t go over well with many of the kids who, by now, had known me for many years.
Third grade in particular. When I gave them the news, one girl named Jada cried, saying, “This is almost as bad as the day my daddy left.”
