After you write your haiku, you focus on the ellipses. I watch the way they spill over from the nib of your pen. You make them round and full, perfecting the circular orbs. You call these ellipses planets, and speak about all the unknown civilizations that dwell on them. You continue telling me how they are the spaces between shooting stars, pauses between today and tomorrow, between what was, what is, what will be . . .
