Family Planning
Everything took a dramatic turn rather quickly. The details came in too fast for me to truly process. Nurses and doctors using medical terms I didn’t know or understand. An operating room being prepped in a hurry. A rare platelet type being brought in by ambulance, and the nurses wheeling my wife and unborn baby away without saying goodbye. The only crystal clear thing I remember is the doctor quickly asking before surgery, “I will try to save them both but there is a chance that one will not make it. If I can only save one of them who will it be, the baby or your wife? You have to let me know right now.”
