Looking Both Ways

Modern scientific thinking identifies genes as the basis of an organism’s struggle for survival. Propagation and progeny are paramount to the gene, as those processes ensure survival to the next generation. Under such circumstances, offspring are not a choice, but an imperative. The urges that drive animals to breed are primal and basic because they are coded into almost every cell. I’d like to believe I have resisted my pre-programmed procreative drive and beaten those selfish genes. The meagre reward for this Herculean task is a world that’s a little less crowded.
