New Father

When my wife announces that she’ll take the baby with when she goes shopping, I breathe a sigh of relief and anticipation. I look forward to having some “me time” alone on a Saturday morning. Then, not long after they leave, I wonder why they’re taking so long.

at a pond’s edge
the stillness so longed for
a water lilly
drifts in a restless wind
returning to find its place
