Wake Up

"The way you make love
is the way God will be with you."
~ Rumi

Tonight I am absent and you can see it in my eyes. Plans, bills, another appointment to remember – there's always something else on my mind.

You feel me as if I am the desert wind – comforted by my warmth, but slightly pushing against the ease of you.

It is as if you are searching for a lost treasure in my eyes. Even in the darkness, a bright gem's light is hard to see.

All at once, my shielded eyes soften, exposing such vulnerability. Again, I've been reminded of all that takes me from you. How could I have been so foolish?
