Le Foyer
here where I live in the mountains the fireplace is the center of the house
the old village houses all have fireplaces they seem antiquated but work
and are rebuilt in the same traditional style even in new houses
many people cut their own wood here collect kindling pinecones
the fire warms our hearts and bones we crack walnuts and almonds roast chestnuts
talk or keep silence a tale will surface now and again to be told in
a singing voice and heard by those who sit curled in a chair with a cat on their lap
a breath of snow for enjoyment I light a fire
