The Boundary Strand (Traighe-na-Criche)

One has made its way from amongst the great tribes of fish to the shelter of this otter-crabbing bay. Head up over the swell, all ears and nose, sniffing the air. Side-on, a single eye faces us from, it seems, an aeon of fishing nous. An acknowledgement of our presence? All pupil, somehow it elides the threads of understanding.

blink of an eye
the seal slides under
unbroken waves

Note: The Boundary Strand is a beach on the north coast of the Isle of Iona, Scotland.
