One Pink Shoe

I noticed it regularly as I travelled home from work and queued at the junction. It was there by the railings in the middle of the ring road for nearly three months – a pink canvas shoe, laces tied with a neat bow, gradually turning grey.

I was fascinated by the idea that the owner had just gone off and left it. Maybe, if I was of an age to wear pink canvas shoes, I would have understood.

Other items of debris are still there but now the shoe has gone.
