Notes From A Jeweler’s Insomnia

The seam of rubies dreams itself pastry filling. The antique diamond necklace dreams itself dew. The sapphire under museum lighting dreams itself Joan of Arc’s left eye. The raw emerald covered in miner’s blood dreams itself Joan of Arc’s right eye. The fire opal on the shopping network dreams itself burning down the world’s tallest tree. The onyx dreams itself the hollow of Abe Lincoln’s closed mouth. This turquoise in my hand has a recurring dream of drowning. The amber that swallowed a gnat doesn’t sleep.
