Speaking of Tongues

A few years ago I wrote a novel. Although fiction, the work involved researching an indigenous tribe who lived in relative peace along the central coast of California for perhaps as many as ten thousand years. That peace ended in the mid eighteenth century when the Spanish conquest decimated and enslaved their population. Those left of the Ohlone tribe still live in a region that extends from San Francisco Bay in the north to Point Sur in the south, but the last of them to speak their native language died before 1960.
