John Budan

Dead

Rumors are circulating that the bus will be restored. After all, the Smithsonian once offered to buy the famous vehicle. They claimed it was the stellar symbol of the 60s. But that was when the famous author was still alive and before the rust devoured it, rendering it paper-thin with large gaping holes in the floor and ceiling. Vandals and neglect finished it off. The interior is gutted of instrument panels, steering wheel, and door. I can make out traces of psychedelic day-glow paint and the word FURTHUR. Woodstock, merry acid trips, and Grateful Dead screaming for release. I wait patiently for the Oregon rains to return.

searing heat
the cold ashes
of yesterday
