Needing a Heart

The first computer that I owned did not have a hard drive, just a slot for inserting and withdrawing a floppy disk. All that I thought and wrote lived on the disk. Like a poem (or person) without a heart, the tiny Apple seemed heartless, soulless, truly alive only when the thin disk resided inside it, like an often repeated transplant. I have met people from time to time who remind me of that early, primitive computer.
