An Old Canvas
Sitting on my garden veranda this warm spring morning, I paint over a discarded, coffee stained seascape canvas. I paint a new impressionist landscape with wheaten gold foreground and a dark brooding grey sky.
I look around me at my flowering spring garden and see the purple foxgloves proud at one meter tall, I see clumps of snap dragons in pinks and whites. The huge scarlet hollyhocks tower above the fence and on the banks of the koi pond the giant white arums reflect in the water, and I wonder why my canvas can’t look like this.
